ArticlesNitpicking 101
What is Nitpicking?Nitpicking is the art of finding mistakes in a television show, for the purpose of stimulating discussion about and enjoyment of that show. Although the dictionary defines nitpicking as "paying too much attention to petty details," as used in our context it is more about having fun and acknowledging the imperfection of being human and of being involved in a creative process. Standing OrdersPhil Farrand, in his series of Nitpicker's Guides © 1993-1997, instituted some rules of conduct that have been adapted for use as Standing Orders for the SG1Web: Nitpicker's NetGuide (NNG). All nits picked shall derive from canonical sources. For the purposes of the NNG, the only canonical source is the series itself. Although for purposes of discussion we may try to explain differences between the movie and the series, if a conflict arises the series version will take precedence. The same is true for the novels. Consider the movie and novel events to have occurred in a slightly different alternate reality, if that helps. :-) All nitpickers shall perform their duties with light-heartedness and good cheer. We're just here to have fun with one of our favorite television shows. Nitpicking is all about liking a show so much that you want to try to resolve conflicts and discuss the backstory/world/premise developed, not about flames or insults or ridicule. A corollary to this order:
