WelcomeEditor's Notes
October 1, 1999Origins of the NNGSometimes it's hard to believe I just discovered Stargate SG-1 a few months ago, the way it's taken over my life. I started out just catching season one in syndication, watching it on our local FOX station. Never even thought to tape the episodes at first. I think things really took off when a friend (thanks, Myra!) loaned me a bag full of Showtime tapes, both season one and season two. Now, I've always enjoyed science fiction and fantasy, in books, television, and movies. But lately, there had been a real dearth of good sci-fi tv to choose from. It didn't help that at the time my cable company didn't include the Sci-Fi channel either. Then here comes this terrific show, with an intriguing premise, great cast, excellent writing, and state-of-the-art production values. What can I say? I quickly became addicted. I devoured the episodes on tape, frequented the fan sites, worked through reams of fan fiction, and even participated in Showtime's interactive web site. And then I thought - how can I contribute to this phenomenon? Hence the idea for the Nitpicker's NetGuide. I've always enjoyed the 'nitpicking' process for science fiction--the intellectual challenge of finding errors or problems and striving to justify or explain them away within the context of the created milieu. No one else was doing this yet... why not me? So I brainstormed, organized, plotted, and planned, and the results you now see before you. This will be a work in progress, as with any web site, and I hope people will find it intriguing and useful. Stay tuned, there's more to come! -- Meli Copyright © 1999-2006 Linda M. Kolar, aka Meli.
