WelcomeEditor's Notes
November 15, 2000Miss Otis Regrets...Back in 1935, Cole Porter wrote an intriguing little ditty called "Miss Otis Regrets..." It's a strange little number, about a woman who kills her ex-lover and is hanged as a result, set to sound like an RSVP for a luncheon date ("Miss Otis regrets she's unable to lunch today"). Very much not Stargate SG-1 related, I'm sure you're thinking, and you'd be right. But as I was preparing this Note and it kept taking longer and longer to get to it, I just kept thinking of the first line of that song. Why? Because I regret not doing a better job of keeping the content here fresh and updated while I'm playing around with the back-end coding for version 2.0. Yes, it has been quite a long time since I've had a substantial update, and now even the monthly items such as the Editor's Note and new Book Nook entries are being delayed. This certainly has not been my intention, and I could go on and on with the usual excuses of excessive travel for work, long hours, busy life, lots of behind-the-scenes development--but none of that matters much to folks who are stopping by hoping for new content. So... my apologies to everyone, particularly to my regular visitors. Please be assured that I have not abandoned my efforts here, that I have started episode analyses on Season Four and will start posting them soon, that I have enough ideas and features in mind to keep the site going for quite a while yet. I'll get back on track eventually, and I hope you'll find the wait worthwhile. -- Meli Site redesign update: Plugging and chugging away at the PHP and MySQL code to get everything ready for the move. Biggest news: I've settled on the new name, and I hope folks will like it. With version 2.0, the NNG will become "SG1Web: Nitpicker's NetGuide (a Stargate SG-1 Fan Resource)." Huzzah! The Book NookThis month, I had a hard time deciding whether to list these books as 'fiction' or 'non-fiction.' Most people would say that faeries and gnomes are not real, thus making these books works of fiction. But the reason I've included them is because both are wonderful examples of modern illustration designed to spark the imagination, pieces of art that might also be classified as non-fiction. Check them out and decide for yourself!
